Cape Seed origins

Leave a comment on this blog post by 5pm AEST Wednesday 31 August for a chance to win a week’s worth of bread vouchers. Yours to use as you please.

Often we get asked, ‘what is our healthiest bread’? Whether people are starting a health kick, or hoping to eat a little smarter for breakfast and lunch, customers are always interested to know what is the best bread for them.

When answering, our staff often point our customers in a couple of different directions depending on taste and health benefits wanted. Hi-Fibre Lo-GI, Chia, Wholemeal Country Grain, but the loaf that provides the greatest overall health benefits in my opinion is our Cape Seed Loaf.
Our Cape Seed Loaf is based on a traditional loaf baked for many years in South Africa. The original loaf was provided to under privileged South Africans as a source of essential nutrients. From all reports, this loaf was nutritious however not exactly tasty.

Knowing that Australians are keen for a healthy loaf, but one that tastes good, our bakers got together and created the loaf we have today. Our Cape Seed Loaf is not only a hearty, tasty bread in its own right, but is also a source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
This loaf, contains- soy and linseeds, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, rye, barley, oats and mung beans- this makes up a very special product.

• Made from 100% wholegrain flour
• Low GI (48)
• High in protein
• Source of omega-3 ALA
• Rich in antioxidants
• Good Source of Iron / Niacin / Zinc /
• Magnesium / Vitamin E / Calcium
• It’s also 40% higher in protein than regular wholemeal bread, and,
• 25% higher in fibre than regular wholemeal bread

When assessing our ‘healthiest’ bread, it is often difficult as so many breads provide different benefits, but for me Cape Seed is a winner on so many fronts.

For the remainder of August our bakeries will be giving you the chance to win your own year’s worth of Cape Seed Regular Loaves. Jump into your local bakery and fill in an entry with the Cape Seed’s 11 grains, seeds and beans for a chance to win. A tip (check out the posters in our bakeries for a hint to the answer).

We are also running a daily Cape Seed Twitter competition until the end of August. From 1-2pm AEST Monday – Friday, look out for our Cape Seed Tweets. If you are one of the first 11 each day to ‘re-tweet’ you will win a free Cape Seed Regular Loaf.

Twitter terms and conditions.

Doing something as simple as picking the right loaf of bread is a great way to start a health kick. Thanks for the info Bakers Delight!
